Portuguese soprano Mariana Fernandes is quickly establishing herself as a compelling and versatile performer, praised for her vocal power and emotional depth. She is a recent graduate of the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2023–2025), where she also earned her Master of Performance with Distinction and Bachelor of Music with Honours. Her earlier training began at the Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon.

In 2025, Mariana joined the Glyndebourne Opera as a Jerwood Young Artist, performing in the chorus for Parsifal, Saul, Falstaff, and Kat’a Kabanova at the Glyndebourne Festival, and is returning in the Autumn covering the role of Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

She has performed a wide range of roles, including Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Aunt Norris (Mansfield Park), Mabel(The Casserole), and Suor Dolcina (Suor Angelica), with appearances at Guildhall Opera and West Green House Opera. She also appeared as Jody in Jeremy Fisher (OperaFest Lisboa) and covered Angèle in Der Zar lässt sich photographieren. Earlier in her training, she performed Contessa Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro).

A frequent concert soloist, Mariana has performed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at St. Giles Cripplegate and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at Romsey Abbey. She featured as a soloist in the Jerwood Young Artists concert at Brighton Dome and has also sung at Wigmore Hall, both in the Voiceworks series and as a finalist in the 69th Kathleen Ferrier Awards—one of the UK's most prestigious competitions for young singers.

She was awarded the 2024 Susan Longfield Award and the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors Vocal Prize, and was a finalist in both the Concurso Internacional de Canto Lírico de Lousada and the Fundação Rotária Portuguesa’s national vocal competition at Centro Cultural de Belém.

Mariana's extensive operatic scene work includes Magda (La Rondine), Arabella (Arabella), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Mimì (La Bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Suor Angelica, and Nedda (Pagliacci).

With a voice described as “multi-faceted,” “nuanced,” and “stunningly powerful,” Mariana Fernandes is a rising talent whose performances are resonating with audiences and critics alike.
