Portuguese soprano Mariana Fernandes is rapidly establishing herself as a compelling and versatile performer, praised for her vocal power, emotional depth, and nuanced characterisation. She is a recent graduate of the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2023–2025), where she completed both a Master of Performance with Distinction and a Bachelor of Music with Honours. Her early musical training began at the Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon.
In 2025, Mariana joined Glyndebourne Opera as a Jerwood Young Artist, performing in the chorus for Parsifal, Saul, Falstaff, and Káťa Kabanová at the Glyndebourne Festival. She returned later that year to cover Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and will rejoin Glyndebourne in 2026 as cover Contessa Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. In the 2026 season, she also makes her role debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with *Orquestra do Norte.
Her stage repertoire includes Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Aunt Norris (Mansfield Park), Mabel (The Casserole), Suor Dolcina (Suor Angelica), and Jody (Jeremy Fisher), with performances at Guildhall Opera, West Green House Opera, and *OperaFest Lisboa. She has also covered Angèle in Der Zar lässt sich photographieren. Earlier in her training, she performed Contessa Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro).

A frequent concert soloist, Mariana has performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at St Giles Cripplegate and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at Romsey Abbey. She appeared as a soloist in the Jerwood Young Artists Concert at Brighton Dome and has sung at Wigmore Hall, both in the VoiceWorks series and as a finalist in the 69th Kathleen Ferrier Awards, one of the UK’s most prestigious competitions for young singers. Additional concert appearances include LSO Discovery Days at LSO St Luke’s.
Her awards include the 2024 Susan Longfield Award and the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors Vocal Prize. She was also a finalist in the Concurso Internacional de Canto Lírico de Lousada and the 13º Concurso de Canto Lírico da Fundação Rotária Portuguesa at Centro Cultural de Belém.
Mariana’s extensive operatic scene repertoire includes Magda (La rondine), Arabella (Arabella), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Lia (L’enfant prodigue), Mimì (La bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Suor Angelica, Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte), and Nedda (Pagliacci).
